I so love crafting. It is definitely one of my favorite hobbies aside from cooking, baking and watching movies. Coming to The Netherlands just opened up another way for me to express my creativity.

To my surprise, the postal services here in the west still work like magic. Stamps are still saleable and there are a lot of things it has been used for aside from letters and all these things.
So what exactly am I talking about? I am so consumed with making happy mails and sending letters. If ever you want more information about it, here are a few FAQs (frequently asked questions) about snail mail or pen paling.

What is happy mail?

💕For me, it is any mail that makes one happy (can be a card, letter, crafting stuff)

Do you like when things such as mail tags or a list of questions are included?

💕 It’s easier to reply to a mail or letter with questions so you don’t need to think of things to open up to your penpal friend

How long is your average letter?

💕 Mine is always a back-to-back sheet of paper. Well, it actually depends. I have a friend in Canada and I also write to small pieces of paper some music I listen to, my favorite scripture of the week, etc

What kind of gifts or extras do you like to include, if any?

💕 I always include different types of paper, and washi tapes as well. Just to fill up the 20g or 100g so it depends. Sometimes, I also include a bag of tea or an instant coffee mix. Last time, I sent a mail with a matcha powder mix inside the mail to Belgium.

Is it possible to ask your pen pal too many questions?

💕 You will know that once you receive a letter from them, it will tell you if they are open or not

Do you prefer decorating your own letters or keeping them simple?

💕 I always decorate mine cause it is very therapeutic. Nothing leaves my table not colored or just plain simple. But then again, it all depends on the person if they want to just write or be creative.

So there you have it.

Actually, when I learned about snail mailing while living in the west, I also learned that they also still do that in my home country, The Philippines. I wish I could have started while I was there. I definitely love making cards and writing letters.
Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-77739425871207046392021-09-20T02:11:00.002-07:002021-09-20T02:11:27.123-07:00Cheese Boards in The NetherlandsI am a very huge fan of anything that looks cute! Mainly in crafting maybe but also with food. I love mixing cheese boards when we just feel like making one, and it is just so satisfying to eat, these finger foods.

It is so fortunate on my case because these items are all available in our local supermarkets. Plus, they are just few steps away.

For this specific cheese board, we used four different types of French cheese. Brie with black truffle was my favorite amongst the ones we had, and camembert is my least, I cannot simple take the smell of it.

Back home in The Philippines, I also arranged a smorgasbord (a type of cheese board I belive), but it has more of small chopped vegetables rather than cheese. Cheese is expesive there, plus, we only have few options.

Anyways, do you like cheeseboards as well?Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-8382642835477650742021-04-21T03:08:00.005-07:002021-06-13T04:50:29.902-07:00What To Do Next: After Arriving in The Netherlands via MVV-FamilyHello everyone! It's a new day again and new adventure awaits! I have been in The Netherlands for a month now and I am finally settled. There were still a lot of things that needed to be done and things were a little bit confusing at first. But with the help of my husband, family and friends, I was able to accomplish almost everything.
It was not easy filing all the documents since my husband works full time from Monday to Friday. But thanks to my mom-in-law, for helping me with some of the calls when I do not know what to do. But mostly, I was able to do them by myself. And that makes me so satisfied and delighted cause I feel a bit of independence. Things were not as complicated as I thought. I just need to be courageous and patient.

So I wrote these steps down because I still have friends in The Philippines waiting for their MVV approval. It was a little difficult for me to find information so I've decided to list them down when I accomplished them so it would be easier for my friends. (Hello Cris!) *wink*

Okay, so let's get started and get things done!

Normally, a letter (with the title: "Uitnodiging ophalen verblijfsdocument") will appear in the IND/DigiD portal of your partner and you will receive it via post. It is an invitation from immigration that you can collect your residence card in an immigration office. You need to call IND first to confirm if your card is ready. If it is ready, make an appointment at the IND stated in your letter (for example: IND Utrecht).
IND Appointment: https://ind.nl/Paginas/Afspraak-ophalen-verblijfsdocument-.aspx

If your husband/partner is working and he has no available time to help process the things you need in time, you can call the gemeente/IND/GGD/etc and you can inquire for your own. I hope that somehow, this post will help you atleast have an overview of the important things you need to accomplish once you arrive in The Netherlands. With the schooling/work and other matters, I might make a separate blog post about them. There you go! Thank you for reading ang have a great day!

From a scientific point of view, nothing should be accepted without scrutiny. From this consideration, one may wonder is cycling a good exercise? Or, it is a hype of bicycle manufacturers to increase their sales. After all when fake is so common, who knows that cycling manufacturing companies may unite and create a commotion on the web that cycling offers dozens of health benefits including curing cancer. Their sole purpose is to increase their revenues. So let's find out is cycling really a good exercise?

What Do Researchers Say Regarding Cycling?

Since bicycles are centuries-old human-powered transportation, the pros and cons of cycling is a favorite research topic of researchers. They have identified that there are 11 convincing facts that prove that cycling is one of the best exercises and quite beneficial for health. Below is a brief discussion on those conclusive facts regarding cycling.

1. Less Overeating
The simple reason why people gain more weight is when they eat more but work less. It is found that people who do exercise like riding a folding electric bike every day as a form of workout are more concerned about overeating. For example, they think twice before gobbling two donuts together and often satisfy their appetite for a sweet snack with just one.

2. Burns Fat
According to sports physiologists, cycling pushes the body’s metabolic rate. The elevated metabolic rate causes burning fat and calories. They have found further that for 30 minutes of continuous cycle riding the body’s metabolic system continues to burn fat for another two or three hours.

3. Boost Digestion
According to the researchers of Bristol University, the effects of cycling extends further down your core. Physical activity like cycling boosts your digestion. The activity decreases the time food requires to move through the large intestine and the absorption of water back into the body leaving soft tools that are easier to expel from the body.
Other good effects of cycling are it accelerates your breathing and heart rate and stimulates the contraction of your intestinal muscles. The squeezing of your intestinal muscle will help you from the feeling of bloated and protect you from suffering from colon cancer.

4. Lung Exercise
Cycling is a useful lung exercise. One evidence of it is health experts found that you inhale 10 times more oxygen when you ride a bicycle in contrast to when you sit comfortably in front of TV. Cycling forces lung muscles to work harder which requires your body to inhale more oxygen from the air. In the recent COVID-19 pandemic, doctors are giving much emphasis on breathing exercises to strengthen lung. Biking can give you a good breathing exercise.

5. Lose Weight
The correlation is simple. Since cycling burns calories, the activity will also help you to shed extra body weight. Further, cycling is better than running for obese people. It is because when heavy people run, the extra body weight puts a heavy load on their feet making them tired quickly.

6. An Aerobic Workout
Cycling is a useful aerobic exercise that stimulates the brain to release a hormone called endorphins. Thanks to this hormone cyclists feel better the aerobic exercise is beneficial for the brain, blood vessels, and heart.

7. Builds Muscles
During the power phase of cycling that is when you press the pedal downward several muscles of your body come into action which includes gluteus muscles of buttocks, quadriceps of thighs, and soleus muscles of your calves. Cycling also requires the use of your other muscles like abdominal muscles to keep your body balance and keeping body upright, your arms, and shoulder muscles to hold the steers and handlebars. To sum up, cycling is a good workout for all of these muscles.

8. Builds Bone
According to a health expert, pushing pedals causes the pulling of the muscles and then the muscles react by pulling the bone. These subsequent actions of muscles and bone increase bone density which is quite important to prevent osteoporosis which is a bone-related disease.

9. Beats Illness
One unsubstantiated claim is if you eat an apple each day, you will be able to keep the physician at bay. However, what researchers found that low-impact exercises like cycling boost the body’s immune system. The immune system then acts as a barrier to keep the body free of disease.
One evidence of the claim that regular cycling keeps the body free of disease is a research finding of the University of North Carolina. The researchers of the university found that people who ride bicycles 5 days each week for 30 minutes take less sick days in comparison to people who are habituated with a sedentary lifestyle with no physical exercise.

10. Heals Heart
The researchers of another US university, the University of Purdue found that cycling reduces the risk of heart disease by 50 percent. British heart foundation also found a good outcome of cycling. It founds that cycling not more than 20 minutes each day significantly reduces the risk of heart disease.

11. Live Longer
Dr. Lynn Cherkas, a researcher of King college London, conducted extensive research on regular cycling and its impact on the body. He found that regular cycling greatly reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even cancer. All of these diseases reduce people's life significantly shorter.
They've been the reason why I keep on making these trendy foods I saw online. But hey, there's not that much to do and I am kinda tired of the things I cook, so yes, why not explore?

So for today's food sharing, here is one of the hot (literally and figuratively) dish that made our chilly summer a little bit cozy.

My family in both sides love sushi. It is very easy to make, as you can see in my previous post here, We Always Love our Sushi Nights. But sometimes, rolling takes a lot of time. So this trend in my home country is one of the best alternative on enjoying sushi without losing that much time on preparation.

You might think that this will make no difference, but I tell you, it is so good that we finished the whole pan.

Unlike how you make the typical sushi, you need to lay your sushi rice as the foundation. Of course, you need to season it beforehand with white wine vinegar, sugar and salt. Here, I added this seasoning that I recently bought at an Asian grocery. I do not read Japanese but I believe that this is Furikake, (振り掛け / ふりかけ) a dried Japanese seasoning that you can sprinkle in all sorts of dish.

I also added some nice thin slices of carrots to add a nice vibrant orangey color. There should also be fresh slices of avocado to make it creamier.

We always eat fried eggs that's separate from the sushi, it is called Gyeran Mari in Korean, but this time, I placed it on top of the avocado to seal this creaminess together with the rice. I might sound nonsense here but trust me, it will work.

Here I have a mixture of high-quality mayonnaise, surimi or crab meat imitation (you can use real crab meat), smoked salmon and a dash of sesame oil. Spread it just all throughout and press it down so there will be no air sack in the dish (it makes a difference you know, hehe).

Of course, it will never be complete if I will not use cheese while living in the land of good cheese! Sprinkle some on top and put in a preheated oven of 200C for 15 minutes.

After waiting for like an eternity, it will look like a tempting cassava cake! You have the choice to make it cool first before digging in or eat it as is. Just be careful if you will have it right after you bake it. The rice will be so hot that it may cause burn.

You may now prepare the table, some good wrapping salad (like the one you use when you eat Korean BBQ), some small cuts of nori sheets (seaweed) and your favotire sushi sauce. We also love to have ginger slices and wasabi to complete the sushi feel.

I wasn't able to take a photo of how you eat it, but it is simple. Precut the sushi bake in small rectangular sizes and place a slice in a small nori sheet. Here's a photo I got from the internet to show you how it looks.

Source: https://www.foxyfolksy.com/

It was really good that I can eat it everyday!

Have you heard of this trend? Would you give it a try?

Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-27800485230552538442020-07-12T23:35:00.001-07:002020-07-12T23:35:43.965-07:00Rock & Roll with Chili's Inspired BurritosFrom my post here: Lunch Date at Chili's PH, you will really see how I instantly fell inlove with this restaurant. It was my very first time eating there and happily, we visited them again when we were back in The Philippines few years ago.

But since we cannot go back home yet, there are just food that I keep on missing. One of those is this burrito of Chili's! I've heard that there's a branch in Germany but I cannot get out of The Netherlands at the moment.

Not to feel homesick so much, I made my very own Smothered Pork Burrito (copied from their signature Smothered Chicken Burrito).

It was actually very easy to make! I just sauteed the pork with a little bit of taco seasoning, added rice and corn, and mix everything well.

Assembling the burrito is not that difficult either!

I just laid a corn tortilla, sprinkled with some cheese (they say Mexican cheese works better!), avocado, cucumber, tomato and grilled paprika (add chilis if you prefer it spicy).

Add a generous amount of rice then start rolling. I also preheated the oven to 200C cause I'm baking it!

When all of the rolls are in the baking pan, brush a good amount of sour cream, sprinkle with more cheese on top and bake for atleast 15 minutes. When it's done, remove from the oven and sprinkle chopped cilantro on top.

There we have it, my version of Chili's signature burrito. Like what I've said, this one is very easy. I did not even taste it before serving, and everyone loved it! I am happy that there are a lot of easy recipes that I can do for my family.

Does this post opened your eyes to a lot of possibilities now? Or did I just made you hungry. Hehe

Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-44070328264884477992020-07-02T00:00:00.000-07:002020-07-02T00:00:07.888-07:00First Cafe Visit After Quarantine: 't Voorhuys Restaurant Grand CafeThe day I came to The Netherlands was the day that they declared the intelligent lockdown. Just imagine how sad I was at that time because I was so excited to meet with friends, to try out new restaurants and to visit some attractions again. But of course, we need to follow directions. Happily, all of my family is well up to now. And I couldn't ask for more.

Four months later, the curve has subsided and it started to flatten. The offices started functioning again and the restaurants started to operate. Finally, the day I've been waiting for since I arrived. We are now allowed to eat out again, but of course, with strictly following social distancing and handwashing thingy.

We are fortunate to receive a complimentary stay at 't Voorhuys Hotel in the nearby neighborhood so we grabbed it. It was just a one-night stay but still, we weren't really able to enjoy our wedding anniversary the previous month which supposedly gonna happen in Germany for a few days.

It was just a 10-minute drive from home and it was actually fun being a local customer. There were still a lot of things we haven't tried so why not start today, right?

Grand Dessert

We already finished having dinner so we just planned to take some good beer and dessert.

My husband was bold enough to get a set of five dessert tastings even though we had good slices of pizza at home. It consisted of mango sorbet, berry pannacotta, Tony Chocolonely salted caramel mousse, tiramisu, a slice of cake (I think) with whipped cream in the middle.

I thought I was modest enough when I ordered a serving of raspberry berry pannacotta with vanilla ice cream on the side.

But after finishing the desserts, we had another glass of beer, draft this time, also my first time to have beer straight out of the cask. It isn't nice to drink beer alone. So we got a cheese plate with two kinds of cheese, olives, onions, bread, seasoned butter, dips, and sausages.

Yes, I thought we were already full.

It was just so nice having drinks, small finger food to accompany it. We also talked about a lot of things and I really love that.

I cannot stress enough how stuffed we were with the food we just enjoyed having. But it was worth it. We finished the day with a small walk in the centrum and finally headed to our hotel room. It was great. I loved it! It might not always be the same way cause of the new normal but I am happy that we can still enjoy these things again.

I made it a habit that every time we are going to celebrate our wedding anniversary, I will give my husband a bouquet of flowers which means that not only girls receive flowers, men deserve to receive such too!

Last year, we celebrated our special day at home. There was actually no way for me to get out of the house and buy. SO I asked my sister if she can do it for me. Later the afternoon, she came at our door holding a box and a bottle of wine. The box contained twelve roses and the wine came from my loving parents. He was so touched that he had tears in his eyes.

This year, for our second anniversary, my sister is not there to help me carry out my plan. I am also shy to ask my in-laws. Two nights before the D-day, we were already lying in bed, ready to sleep. I remembered this card we received from my parent-in-laws so I looked it up online.

The website is in Dutch but that did not hinder me from browsing it. Since I am learning the language, it is actually pretty easy to manoeuvre. I came across a dozen of white roses and it is very affordable. My Paypal fund isn't much. There was also a discount code that I got somewhere and I used it when purchasing. It's all done in a couple of minutes. My husband beside me doesn't have any clue.

Because I was so anxious that the package will arrive late, I kept on messaging them to give me updates about my order. They were pretty responsive and I know that I am talking to real persons.

My husband received his white roses and we had it in the living room for nearly three weeks. The flowers stayed fresh for an ample days and I loved it.

I am so proud of myself cause I was able to live up on what I've started, giving flowers to my man every anniversary. Next year, I don't have any idea where we will be at. But I am pretty confident that I can do the same again.

This is not a sponsored post. It is an appreciation post to Greetz for living up on my expectations. We also ordered a card just recently for my brother-in-law's wedding anniversary.

So if ever you need to send flowers here in The Netherlands, I recommend them.Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-32265554526482084962020-06-09T02:04:00.001-07:002020-07-04T13:37:25.130-07:00Mini Pancake Cereals: Another TikTok TrendI was never a Tiktok-er. I have never had a chance to visit the platform. It is interesting they say. But hey, I got tons of social media apps on my phone already. I don't think I can manage if I still add one more. I also have this blog to run and post content regularly. So yeah, I skipped that one.

The app contents can be shared on other platforms too, so what my friends post in that media, it also appears in my Instagram and Facebook dashboard. How convenient is that! This time, these cute little pancakes appeared. And because they're so mini, and lovely, how could I resist?

So then, I gave it a go.

Before having a video conference, I made myself busy dropping a small dollop of pancake batter in the pan. Yes, it was time-consuming. So for the rest, I just made normal sized pancakes, I don't want to be late on my meeting!

After transferring everything into a bowl, I was surprised to see the beauty of small things. This is genuinely attractive.

To finish off, I added a good splash of soya milk (which I find very fitting, and yummy too) and some maple syrup into the bowl.

Urrggghh! It's really gorgeous.

You can find the recipe in this post: http://www.myxilog.com/2013/09/homemade-pancake-recipe-and-tutorial.html
And yes, with all the side dishes, the cake, we weren't able to finish all the meat. But it would be a waste to throw them away since you can never reheat it as good as the first time you cooked it. The came the idea of making something out of it.

After our anniversary day, we planned of going out of town and celebrate outside as well. Then we need to pack some food so we do not need to find stores to buy stuffs.

Happily, we have some leftover cream cheese from the cake that we made, we also have wraps from the burrito that we ate the other night. It was perfect! Everything we need was there from the wrap to the filling.

I tried to cut the steak as thin as possible so it will be easier to have them in the wrap. Thankfully, my MIL owns a very sharp Japanese knife, made the job easier.

On the wrapper, spread a good amount of cream cheese, squeeze some garlic mayonnaise (you can use plain), place the beef strips, top it with some roasted red peppers and sprinkle with nice green salad (arugula, lettuce, cucumber, or whatever green vegetable you have).

Roll them tightly and cut them into pinwheels or to your desired size (if you don't want to cut it, it's okay too!). I remembered making it with tuna when one of our friends had their farewell party, it was actually G's idea. He loves pinwheels, easy to make, not messy and convenient to have.

So if you are going to make one tonight, or on the weekend, here are the ingredients to recap:
- tortilla
- leftover steak
- cream cheese
- mayonnaise
- roasted red pepper
- salad (your choice of greens)

A friend of mine made it with salmon slices and it is a nice lunch for a small trip to the zoo. I hope you can try to make one too!

Last year, we stayed at home in the morning, played some video games together then in the evening, we visited a club house and had an unlimited buffet for dinner.

This year, there is no way that we can go out to a restaurant due to the pandemic. They only sell to-go food and most of them were snacks and fries. To make it memorable, we went out of town to visit the nearest Asian grocery store. There we ate Chinese take out and bought ingredients for some dish in mind. We also walked around the city center and bought some good scented bath bombs, a pair of shoes and some fresh strawberries and raspberries. The night before, I've actually made a cake already. It is a gluten-free and lactose-free strawberry vanilla drip cake.

For our main course, we had good fresh slabs of beef steak. It was my very first time making one and I am a bit worried that I might overcook it. G saw online that you just need to cook the sides first until brown then the front in back for about 8 minutes, while flipping it to prevent it from burning. The thing is, the meat we bought was already seasoned so I thought I do not need to add anything else. I was wrong.

I did added some more butter to the oil, some crushed garlic and fresh thyme leaves. But I did not reseasoned them before serving. I could have been more palatable to the taste if I just did that. It's okay, I learned my lesson. For next time. :)

Finally, it was time to eat. G finished setting up the table at the back of the house and he did it very well. What do you think? I love how romantic it looked, of course with matching background music from a group that plays saxophone.

It was so memorable. We had our own meal at home, but still as glamorous as the one in a restaurant. There were also sides that were available in the fridge, just threw everything in and viola!

There we stayed until its so late that the ambiance became even more romantic. Our light was the candles on the side giving it a nice redish color (refer to the cake photo on top).

And that's it, we finished the day with an amazing night and awesome homemade food.

Here are the videos of how we celebrated our wedding anniversary last year. Enjoy!
There's still no way or even a chance to be able to visit that country again so I am recreating their traditional dishes. My husband is one of an avid lover or Viet food so I thought of making some for dinner.

Here's Gỏi cuốn or commonly called Vietnamese spring roll. One of the main ingredients of this dish is shrimp. But because I cannot have it due to my allergy to the crustacea group of shellfish. Sad right? I altered the recipe with fried pork belly in butter, seasoned with salt, pepper and hoisin sauce.

Back home, I only use the meatloaf in can, SPAM, because it is cheap and easy. Surimi, or imitation crab meat stick in another option.

The fresher the greens, the better. Here I am including fresh romaine lettuce (I like how subtle it taste), rice vermicelli (which I soaked in boiling water for 4 minutes, drained and rinsed in cold water), cilantro, basil, mint, cucumber, carrots, bell pepper and celery.

At first, my wrap was a little bit loose. But in the end, it feels like I've finally mastered rolling it. It takes time to firmly roll them but the end result is almost near to perfection (just like the authentic one).

It is so fresh and truly satisfying. With the Vietnamese fish sauce on the side, it feels like we flew back to Vietnam.

So if you are going to make one tonight, or at the weekend, here are the ingredients to recap:
- rice wrapper
- romaine lettuce (or any kind of lettuce that you want)
- cucumber
- carrot
- celery
- basil
- cilantro/coriander
- mint
- rice glass noodles or vermicelli
- shrimp / pork / chicken

For the dipping sauce, you have an option of the fish sauce or the peanut sauce. I am only used of having the fish sauce (Nước Chấm) because that's what they always have in Hanoi (the northern part of Vietnam). But in Ho Chi Min (Saigon), peanut sauce is commonly used. They both taste good so you can even have both.

Do you like this dish too? And have you made your own Vietnamese spring rolls?

Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-24866736200877620232020-05-11T00:29:00.001-07:002020-05-11T02:35:11.454-07:00We Always Love Our Sushi NightsWho doesn't love sushi? My family in The Philippines and my in-laws in The Netherlands were all fond of sushis. I'm so happy about that! Why? I love making them. Once or twice a month, we have sushi nights.

It is now easier to get ingredients than before. That is where we live back home and even here in Europe. Well guess what? There are more available stuffs for sushi here than in our place in PH. Here in NL, I can easily buy smoked salmon (easy to cut and readily available in the supermarket), pickled ginger (we need to make one ourselves though it is not that difficult), and even miso soup (which I never found in our local grocery store).

Yes, it amazed me how things are so available at hand here. I really appreciate the small packages of ingredients if someone just feels like making some. Most of the people living in one roof vary from one to four. Just like this pack of nori sheet that contains five pieces. For a small family, it is better to have a choice of this than that of ten. With our situation of having four people at home, this pack is just perfect. We cannot eat more than five rolls of sushi. They even have a sushi kit that contains everything you need, from the sushi rice to the bamboo mat. (This is an organic review, not sponsored.)

I also love including some egg omelet rolls on our sushi nights. They're very easy to make. I just whisk some eggs, season with salt and pepper, and fry just like what they do in Japan or Korean (fry, roll, repeat). Sometimes I add bell peppers, tomato, onion, and other vegetables. It is called Gyeran Mari in Korean.

Here are my base ingredients:
For the Sushi Rice:
Japanese / short grain rice
White vinegar
sugar
pinch of salt

Cook rice. Place rice in a mixing bowl to cool. While still warm, add vinegar, sugar and salt.

Basic sushi filling:
Nori sheet
cucumber
smoked salmon/sushi-grade salmon
Avocado
Mango
Surimi / Imitation crab stick
Spam / Canned meatloaf

Sushi Dip:
Wasabi
Light soy sauce
Mayo
Pickled Ginger (optional)

And here's my plate of the sushi I made and picked. I'm now going to enjoy eating!
Most especially when it's that time of the month again when they are turning to be more emotional, vulnerable and frail. I have to admit it, I am one of those who want sweets from time to time. I love sugary food when I feel sad. And yes, that's exactly when my period will come.

Happily, there's just one thing I like to eat on these days. I'm easily satisfied with cookie dough ice cream (love that pint of Ben & Jerry's classic ice cream!) or a big piece of freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. But if these items are not available at hand, why not make one ourselves, right?

If you have a microwave at home, give thanks to your parents or the one who made it available for you. Your chocolate chip cookie craving is to be satisfied!

Here's what you need.

In a bowl, mix together;
1 tbsp melted butter
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp white sugar
1 egg yolk
little vanilla

Then add:
3 tbsp flour
pinch of baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tbsp chopped chocolate/chocolate chips
splash of milk

Mix everything in a bowl and microwave on high (1000W) for 60 seconds. You can also use dark chocolate or white if you like.

It's so easy that everyone can do it. Thanks to my husband who made it even though it was already late last night. Try it and let me know how it came out!

Wuhoo! I hope everyone's doing fine despite the pandemic that's happening around the globe. And since this is our second month on an intelligent lockdown (or RMO/Restricted Movement Order / ECQ/Enhanced Community Quarantine in your areas), there's nothing more to do but try a lot of things. Well for this post, it is not something that I just recently saw online but a regular drink that I normally have every time we go to Europe. Because strawberries are always very easy to find, and sometimes comes in a very good deal, there's always a bucket or two in the fridge. (Oh wait, have you heard the new trend, WHIPPED STRAWBERRY MILK? I just looked it up prior to this post.)

It is actually inspired by our dear daughter (a friend who we call and treat as a daughter cause why not? She's lovely! Haha) in The Philippines. She loves aesthetic and fancy drinks and I've seen her made some before. If I am not mistaken, it is a Korean drink (or maybe Japanese).

The IG trend #whippedstraberrymilk is made of strawberry Nesquik, heavy cream and milk. Well, I do not have pink nesquick at hand and I love being natural. All I used was fresh strawberries, a teaspoon of sugar and a splash of cold milk.

I chopped the strawberries into small pieces, set the half aside and mashed the other half. With the mashed part, I added sugar and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. After it cooled off a bit, I poured it in a glass, added a splash of cold milk, and topped it with the remaining strawberries. That's it. Sugar isn't actually necessary, I mostly omit it but this time, I want it to be a little sweeter.

And there is your fresh and yummy strawberry milk, perfect at any time of the day.

Here's a short video of how I made it. Enjoy watching!
It was never easy, always a hassle, and you're losing days in your life without knowing. Most especially if you're flying alone, that's never fun! I always fly with my husband and I cannot imagine myself having a solo flight. But due to circumstances, I need to fly all by myself. What helped me then, to feel more comfortable and at ease?

Three years ago, my husband bought these Bose headphones and I did not have any clue that it'll save me from one of my not-so-good flights. (Disclaimer: this is not a sponsored post.)

Being known for good quality sounds, it also has this noise cancellation feature that makes it one of my flight essentials. The comfort it gives with the soft cushions deserves a thumbs up. They do give away small earbuds in the plane but that's just not my preference. It feels like it never fits my ear lobe and it might fall or get in through my ears.

Bose QuietComfort 35's battery life is just amazing that it can last for a day. In my almost 19-hours flight, it just made me comfortable all throughout. Again, this set is already three years old (and never had to change the batteries). I did not even have problems when being asked by the attendants. I can clearly hear them even I got my music on. It only eliminates the noise of the plane, which for me is very irritating.

And with a flight headphone adapter at hand, I can enjoy the in-flight entertainment with my own set of headphones. With its compact carrying case, it definitely travels friendly.

The only problem my husband had with it was the cushion. He needed to buy a pair and change them every year. I love the cushions, they're very soft (compared to the Sony WH-H900N Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones). I hope they'll make better cushion covers so we need not spend more for it. But all in all, it's really worth every penny. I also use it every time I'm cleaning the house. Good stuff!Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-39440976387551383452020-04-23T03:36:00.000-07:002020-04-23T03:39:35.900-07:00Homemade Bubble Milk Tea | Easy Tapioca Balls

There are so many things in life that I would love to try. Of course, we want to start with the little things, easy to do, affordable. So just like when I first tried the trending coffee (Dalgona), which I posted a few weeks ago, I also tried making my own homemade bubble milk tea.

It was about some weeks ago when we finally had the tapioca starch at hand. I first looked online where can I buy and finally, there's this organic, natural, and health store near our area that sells one. They only have a pack left in their stash. Anyways, we got it for about €3 per 400 grams.

To make the dough, you just need to mix water and half of the starch in a casserole. Then you set it in medium heat until it becomes thick. You need to watch it very carefully because you just want to have a thick and gooey consistency, not a lumpy one. After that, you can turn off the fire and add the remaining starch.

You need to knead your mixture in a bench with parchment paper and lightly dusting the surface to prevent it from sticking. At first, I find that my mixture was translucent. After adding more starch and kneading it, it turned into a nice brown dough, refer to the picture above.

Then you can start making small little balls. I did not really pay attention to the size of the balls that I made but how it came out was okay for me. There were slightly big ones and good size ones.

Finally, set another pan with water in fire and let the balls boiling for a good 20 minutes. I was actually not sure if I did it well until I removed the balls from the boiling water. Suddenly, it became like the ones in the milk tea stores.

After removing from the boiling water, I prepared another pan on the stove with medium heat, and put a good amount of brown sugar, and waited for it to melt then I added the balls. There we go! Easy and affordable pearls for my beloved milk tea drink!

Worry Less With VerspakketI love eating! Well, that's what we always do to continue living right? But there's this thing that everyone hates doing. That is, thinking of what to cook for the next meal.

Most people have busy lives that they cannot have time to plan for their meals for the week. I admit I do not have any idea about it before. Applause to our moms who do not stop thinking and working in the kitchen for the family. They just snap a finger and viola, there's food in the table.

This is one thing I love here in the west. They've made it easier for the consumers to pick which meal they will have for the night. They have meal packages available at grocery stores like Jumbo, Albert Hein, Coop, Plus, Deen (even online like hellofresh.nl). What an ease! You just need to go shopping for grocery and you can even plan while being at the store picking for the package you want to cook. It may be Italian, Moroccan, Spanish, Dutch, Hungarian and whole lot more.

Plus, the package contains fresh ingredients. Just look how shiny and perfect looking these vegetables are!

Most of the packages contain mostly all the ingredients you need. Though sometimes, when it calls for chicken meat, or ground pork for example, you need to purchase them separately.

There's also no need to adjust any seasoning, except for the salt and pepper, if you like.

The package also includes a step-by-step guide on how to cook the pack you've just purchased. Though it was in Dutch, my husband assured me that the procedure was written in a very simple manner.

And there you have it, in a few minutes of chopping, boiling, mixing, you're done! Your meal for the night is ready.

Aside from the availability of all the ingredients (except oil, raw meat, etc), the package also costs few euros. Let's take this Goulash soup for example. You just need to add olive oil and a liter of water. It costs €3.39 (US$3.71/Php188) for six servings. Imagine, you can have a meal for only Php33!

Convinient, affordable and assorted. I think it's really a win-win.

For the two of us (me & my other half), I am always the curious cat. I love exploring. (Happily, I'm still alive! Haha.) There are just too many to try. And I feel like they're calling my name to be given a chance. Haha. Besides, there's not that much to do at home due to the covid19 pandemic. (#blijfthuis / #stayathome)

Anyways, there's this coffee blend that has been bombarding my social media since last week. It has been on trend for some time now and it's just this week that I had the chance to make it. With all honestly, I don't like coffee, yet another reason why I don't have any interest in giving it a chance. But my husband does. And maybe, he'll gonna like it. So last Tuesday, I asked him to do some groceries and I included a jar of instant coffee on the list. For me to be able to have a sip, he bought decaffeinated coffee granules. It also says in the bottle, soft and rich (zacht en rijk). I'm actually not sure what's the difference but yeah.

The recipe is actually very simple. You just need to blend equal parts of coffee, sugar and hot water. Of course, I did not follow the recipe I saw online. I cut down the portion of the sugar to one and a half. With a wire whisk, it took me a heaping seven minutes of arm and hand exercise.

I was very satisfied to see the mixture really froth and double its volume. I was like, "I can do this every day!". When I was done, I prepared an empty glass, add some ice cube on it and poured whole milk. Lastly, I scooped the whipped coffee and put it on top.

Making it was truly satisfying. And that is something you really need to give a try. You'll love it if you're a coffee drinker (cause my husband did!).

To recap, you'll need;
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee
- 1.5 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- milk
- ice cubes

I also tried making one with Nesquick, you know, maybe it'll work. But nah, the mixture never became airy. I just waisted some minutes of my life. Haha. I ended up putting whipped cream in the chocolate mixture to make it airy. Yeah, where's the fun in that? Next time, if I will have a chance to go to the nearest Asian store, I might get Milo, it works like coffee perse.

How do you like it?

Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-79639796793402462762020-03-30T06:50:00.000-07:002020-04-03T11:27:56.987-07:00Organizing a Bridal Shower on A BudgetLet's be honest, we do not have all of the money in the world to prepare the perfect shower. But that doesn't really matter. What's important is, the bride's friends are there, they are all having fun, and the bride appreciates all of your efforts.

But if you are planning to make one for a friend who'll soon tie the knot, what are the things that you actually need?

Amazingly, I know exactly what you need! I am no professional event organizer, I just love organizing small events. Well, I got a few subjects in my college years where I took Hotel and Restaurant Management so I think that's a thing. I also have family and friends who I can ask for ideas and advice.

So first things first, what kind of shower are you planning to prepare? It has been traditionally all girls and known to be a cozy and fun theme. I don't know with you but, I prefer all ladies with legal age (just in case there are sensitive things or topics to be discussed). High tea, brunch, pajama parties are the most picked themes because they do not demand that much food and decorations. If you want to add costumes, you can do so, just make sure that you do not need to buy and it can just be found inside your own wardrobe.

Who are the invited guests? Obviously, the bride-to-be should be number one on the list. Then you can point out those whom she is comfortable with, like her close friends, her siblings, or those who can simply afford to split expenses with you. Remember, this is a budgeted party, so you need someone to be there when your pocket needs them the most. Haha. There is where you can also see who your friends really are. Just kidding. Of course, it depends on their capacity.

When are you going to have the shower? Somewhere before the wedding day or before the bride-to-be leaves for the wedding day. I find it best if the shower will not be too close to the date of the wedding. There are a lot of things the couple needs to finish and an unanticipated invite can be declined if things aren't in the schedule the first hand.

Lastly, where will the party be? You do not always need to rent an event place, especially when you are just a handful of people. Do you have friends that can be the host? Is there a place in your house where you can somehow fit some ladies in? Our goal is to be low-key but somehow elegant to see. Maybe adding decorations like an extra curtain, flowers or balloons.

When you got all the answers to the questions above, you can now draft your resources for the party.

For our simple shower for my friend Truce, we had a simple American brunch. The reason behind this theme was, she will be flying to the states after a few weeks. It's nice to give her a taste of what she'll be having there while she is still in The Philippines, with us! Brunch time calls at 10 in the morning with some fluffy pancakes, sugar-glazed donuts, baked eggs, hash brown, fresh fruits, coffee, tea and of course, mimosa. *grin* A lousy shirt and shorts as the costume, knowing that she is so keen on Korean fashion, and that's actually how I wake up each and every day before having breakfast, I skip the shorts by the way. Stash is common so why not give her a shirt that says "bride"? She will definitely stand out!

Make sure to prepare some fun games to break the ice like, Guess the Dress, Pictionary, and others. Ask the attendees to prepare some advice that they can give the bride-to-be. Finally, have fun!

Additionally, my husband has been out and about with flying to The Philippines and The Netherlands since 2015. With all those times combined, I have summed up my top three airlines (in random order) to fly with if you are planning to visit the beautiful country where good quality of cheese and wooden shoes came from.

We've discovered this website called Expedia (this is by no means sponsored by the company) from a friend last year and in an instant, we gave it a try. That is also how we came across EVA Airlines. Not knowing about the airlines itself, we did not give it any doubt because of the cheaper seats it offers from Asia to Europe. It is a Taiwanese international airline based at Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan.

What we like about them is that they have newer aircraft than the others we normally use. It is also commendable that they have wider and more spacious seats than normal. We liked the food they offer on the flights as well. No doubt they were awarded 5 stars in the airline industry. And with all these pros that I've mentioned, it is just amazing that they offer good deals with their air trips. It's just they have a limited array of entertainment and they have long stop/layover.

Another airline that we like is Etihad Airways, the second-largest airlines of United Arab Emirates. Because they are based in Abu Dhabi International Airport, they give us an equally divided and reasonable stopover from The Philippines to The Netherlands. That is, We also find that they have more and new movies on their in-flight entertainment (IFE). Our flights with Etihad mostly were one of the low-cost flights we can find online. Aside from that, we also receive milage points that we can exchange or redeem with some nice items from their website. The only thing that bums the entirety of the flight is the tight seats. I do not find any problems with it but those who are big-boned or corpulent passengers, it won't be very comfortable. (Side note: I like how they try to reduce plastic waste on their in-flight meals like using stainless steel utensils instead of the disposable ones. My eco-friendly ego is triggered. Haha!)

Also, we have the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines based at its home, Amsterdam (the national airlines of The Netherlands). Though they are a little bit expensive than the first two, it is one in our preference. One reason is that it is a company which we known for quite some time. The first time I flew with them was last 2015. I personally like the ambiance inside the plane because they use lively colors like white and blue. Not being biased because I love those colors but that factor adds to one's flight experience. Even though they are the oldest airline in the world, their airbuses remained following the newest trend there is. Sadly, they have stopped their direct flight from The Philippines to The Netherlands (which we practically prefer for ease of transit). Anyhow, they give good service with their experienced cabin crews.

And there you go. Here are the 3 airlines that we like to use when flying to Amsterdam. Lufthansa, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, China Airlines are among others but not in the top three.

Have you tried any of the airlines mentioned? How was your experience? We'd love to hear!
Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589517065780899908.post-33429985013340614322020-03-16T03:24:00.001-07:002020-03-19T04:37:16.981-07:00Hawker Chan: A Michelin-Starred Restaurant on its Cheapest!Trying out different restaurants runs through my veins, but this one is actually one in my bucket list. Since I finished Restaurant Management in college, I am always attracted to finesse and elegantly made food. This calls on the French pastries, they have awesome cakes and bread, the Italian cuisine, makes me think of how they etiquette-ly try to spin those pasta in their forks just to shoot inside their mouths. Anyways, what am I saying was, it is my dream to eat in a Micheline star restaurant. It is not always every day that we get this fancy, but I was so blessed to have one inside the airport of Taiwan in Taichung.

I first heard of this restaurant name from a blogger few years back. I was actually wondering if I could have the chance to go to Manila (a few hours drive from home) to try it. And aside from the star that it has on its name, the restaurant was also branded as the cheapest one with this prestige status. Shocking right?

So when I first saw it, I was like, "This is the one!". I ordered this soy chicken meal with soup and greens on both sides. A perfect complete meal before departing the beautiful island of Taiwan.

Soya Sauce Chicken Rice (249NTW/8USD)

Rice isn't as typical as the one we have at home. They have a very nice bubble texture and a little bit starchy. I love how the grains are bigger than normal. I think it's Jasmine rice.

The chicken was so tender that no wonder it gained a good status in the food industry. I know that the one in Singapore is the one who got a star, but, is there actually a difference? They all look the same to me (as I look at the photos from other posts).

Chicken skin is not really my favorite part, but in this case, the chicken won't be complete without it. I don't know why but it added that extra smoothness and flavor to the chicken itself. Well, I think they're really meant to be eaten together.

It was fun to see soy eggs in Taiwan as well. They were ordinary hard-boiled eggs dipped or soaked in soy mixture overnight. But that marinate already gave a huge difference, it was savory to eat.

I did not have any regrets trying the chicken of Hawker Chan. It was impressive that they can obtain such an award in the industry but not asking too much from the consumers.Lady_Myxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01237569049459258390noreply@blogger.com1
